An example of the capital of a IONIC column in the Museum of Corinth. There are 3 distinct orders in Ancient Greek architecture: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. They were adopted by the Romans, who modified the capitals of their columns in the 1st century BC. The 3 orders (represented by the capitals of structural columns) have since been used in neo-classical European (and modern Western) architecture.
