As this young Humpback whale throws back it head during a breach, it opens its mouth, displaying the light-colored plates of baleen it uses when filtering out krill and small bait fish when feeding. It’s extremely rare to see Humpies open their mouths in Hawaiian waters as they do not feed while here (there being nothing for them to eat in our too-warm waters).
