Even at a distance of more than a mile, a breaching Humpback whale is pretty conspicuous. I took this shot at the maximum focal length (300 mm) of my camera’s telephoto lens, so this and similarly “long” (i.e., long focal length) shots lack the crisp detail and sharp focus of shots taken at a fraction of this distance (more than a mile away). However, it’s easy to see her body’s contortions into a twisting “corkscrew” breach as the whale leaves the water in this full breach.
