Even at a distance of more than a mile, a breaching Humpback whale is pretty conspicuous. I took this shot at the maximum focal length (300 mm) of my camera’s telephoto lens. As this whale had been breaching for a few minutes and my boat took awhile before reaching the whale, I had plenty of time to set up the shot, something I’m not always able to do with these unpredictable beasties.
