The "tubercles" (vestigial hair follicles) or small bumps on the leading edge of its pectoral fin are visible in this shot of an individual whale rolled over on its side at the surface performing leisurely pec waves.

During a pec wave, this whale's pectoral fin slices through the water as it moves against a strong surface current and high winds. Its unique coloration pattern is clearly visible on the fin. The turquoise coloration seen just below the surface is a continuation of that black-and-white coloration pattern on the whale's ventral aspect.
