I've seen several gravestones on Maui that display life portraits of the deceased. This practice seems to have fallen out of favor with the current generation of Hawaiians, and is more common on gravestones placed during and somewhat earlier than the 1960s. I have seen a similar practice in Catholic cemeteries on the mainland, but most predate the early 1950s.
