Michael Garrison > The Heritage Gardens of Kepaniwai Park, Iao Valley, western Maui.

Since 1952, the gardens have represented the multicultural history of Maui. Reproductions of ethnic buildings and gardens representing the Polynesian, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Korean, and Filipino cultures are the highlight of the park. The gardens were restored in 1994.

Michael Garrison > Setting up for another shot: My photographic gear waits next to "The Colorado Queen", my Toyota Tacoma that I had shipped over from the Mainland. She's paid for and only has about 40 thousand miles on her. Iit's been a comfort to have an old familiar friend around. Photographed near Ka'anapali, west Maui.

Michael Garrison > Rudy Aquino (back row, far left) and some of the members of "Lanui", posing for this shot near the bandstand at the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel, where they performed under the stars six nights a week for several years. The group was really two groups: part of the show was given over to traditional songs, chants, and hula, while the rest of the show consisted of the four-piece band playing several "Island Pop" numbers. It was a great way to spend an evening!
