This part of the island is dominated by the cloud-capped heights of the West Maui Mountains, the other member of the pair of volcanoes (which includes Haleakala) responsible for the formation of Maui.
Looking northward up Ukumehame Valley, cut into the caldera of the volcano that is the West Maui Mountains. Basalt rocks in the valley are associated with the volcano's main magma chamber. Photo taken across the highway from Ukumehame Beach Park, west Maui.
