Michael Garrison  > Other Destinations > San Francisco - October 2011
September-October 2011: After visiting friends & family on the USA Mainland, I spent three wonderful days playing tourist in my favorite California city. As a Bay Area kid, I practically grew up in San Francisco, so it was a treat to be back in The City By The Bay.

The San Francisco skyline, with the unique TransAmerica "Pyramid" as it centerpiece.

"The Transamerica Pyramid is the tallest skyscraper in the San Francisco skyline and one of its most iconic. Although the building no longer houses the headquarters of the Transamerica Corporation, it is still strongly associated with the company and is depicted in the company's logo. Designed by architect William Pereira and built by Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction Company, at 260 m (850 ft), upon completion in 1972 it was among the five tallest buildings in the world." The San Francisco Ferry Building's centerpiece is a 245-foot tall clock tower, with four clock dials, each 22 feet in diameter. The building was designed by American architect A. Page Brown in the Beaux Arts style in 1892. Brown designed the clock tower after the 12th-century Giralda bell tower in Seville, Spain.
