My Travels Before Digital Photography Galleries

Other Countries : From 1986 until 1990 I lived and worked (as a geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey) in the Middle East and Africa. These photographs were shot in Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Jordan, Turkey, Tanzania, and Kenya. All of the shots in Africa were taken on weekends off from field work I was engaged in at the time. Several of the Saudi Arabia and Jordan photos were taken on a month-long off-road drive following the old railroad tracks of the Hejaz Railway built by the Turks just before World War I; a fellow geologist and I drove our Toyota Land Cruisers from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia to Jordan's border with Syria.

California : These photographs were taken by me between 1970 and 1986; my camera then was an old Nikon F. I was born and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, so a lot of the images were shot from my sail boat or from hiking trails in the surrounding hills and mountains of California's Coast Range.
