Hairy Wedelia (Wedilia hispida), also known as Orange Daisy, Iao Valley, west Maui.
Lipochaeta integrifolia, one of Maui's rarer daisies. Trailside in Iao Valley, West Maui. An endangered species. Hawaiian name is "nehe". Often mistaken for Wedelia sp. This species is endemic and endangered.
Jamaica Vervain (Stachytarpheta jamaicensis), near Hana, Maui. Opposing deeply veined leaves with serrated edges are characteristic, as is the thin floral spike with small purple to blue flowers. The floral spikes are unbranched and composed of many tiny bracts from which only one or two flowers open at any one time. Though S. jamaicensis is the most common on Maui, there are two or three other species common in the wild, and the individual species become hybridized very easily, so some individuals may display variation in flower color and leaf texture. This species favors the windward side of the island.
"Snowflake" decorative cultivar of the Red Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis), Keanae Arboretum. Note the frilly borders of the petals; compare with the rounded petals of the more common variety of H. rosa-sinensis.
Unidentified hybrid, Hibiscus sp. 'Iao Valley, north Maui.
