Madagascar Periwinkle (Catharanthu roseus), growing along the roadside near Nahiku. Naturalized in the 1870s; local name is "Kihapai". Grows in any soil along the windward side of Maui. Native and endemic to Madagascar. In the wild, it is an endangered plant; the main cause of decline is habitat destruction by slash and burn agriculture. It is also however widely cultivated and is naturalised in subtropical and tropical areas of the world. other English names occasionally used include Cape Periwinkle, Rose Periwinkle, Rosy Periwinkle, and "Old-maid".

Impatiens sodenii, Poor Man’s Rhododendron; road to Nahiku, east Maui. The plant has naturalised in Hawaii.

Partridge Pea (Chamaecrista nictitans var. glabrata), "Lauki" in Hawaiian. Also known as Sensitive Partridge Pea, Small Partridge Pea, or Wild Sensitive Plant. Hana Maui Botanical Garden, east Maui. A herbaceous species of legume widely distributed through the temperate and tropical Americas. It is an annual plant capable of rapid plant movement: its leaflets literally fold together when touched.
Chinese Violet (Asystasia gangetica), Hana Maui Botanical Garden, east Maui. Introduced into Hawaii, where it has become naturalized.
Sumatra Giant Lily or Giant Spider Lily (Crinum amabile), Keanae Arboretum, southeast Maui. Has a strong tolerance for salt water. A perennial plant that has large showy flowers on leafless stems, and develops from bulbs.
