Ho'okipa Beach, north Maui. The constant onshore winds and wavesets generated by passing cold fronts make this one of the most popular board surfing and windsurfing beaches on Maui's windward side. When the big surf is running, the parking lot and beach-access road are clogged with parked vehicles, and the white-sand beach is standing-room only. During the winter, waves often exceed 50 feet (more than 15 meters) in height.
