Shark Fin Rock.
Pu'u Pehe, named "Sweetheart's Rock" for a local legend about star-crossed lovers leaping to their deaths from the sea stack. The island of Lana'i.

Beach heliotrope and coconut palms come right down to the tide line on the beach at the site of the old Club Lana'i. Molokai is the island on the horizon.

On the beach at the site of the now-defunct Club Lana'i. Looking north toward Moloka'i. The small pier in the middle ground of the photo was used by a private ferry that ran between the club and Lahaina on Maui. My photos don't do this stretch of clean white sand justice: it's the completely deserted palm-lined beach every tourist in the tropics is hoping to find.
Another view of "Turtle Beach", on the southeastern shore of Lana'i.
I named this anonymous rocky stretch of sand "Turtle Beach". Local history tells of a time when this beach played host to hundreds of green sea turtles who laid their eggs in the sand once a year. I did see several turtles feeding on kelp where the surf is breaking near the couple in the photo. The West Maui Mountains loom on the horizon.
