The small pier in the middle ground of the photo was used by a private ferry that ran between the club and Lahaina on Maui. My photos don't do this stretch of clean white sand justice: it's the completely deserted palm-lined beach every tourist in the tropics is hoping to find.
Another view of "Turtle Beach", on the southeastern shore of Lana'i.
I named this anonymous rocky stretch of sand "Turtle Beach". Local history tells of a time when this beach played host to hundreds of green sea turtles who laid their eggs in the sand once a year. I did see several turtles feeding on kelp where the surf is breaking near the couple in the photo. The West Maui Mountains loom on the horizon.
