A Common House Gecko (Hemidactylus frenatus), clinging to the outer surface of my window. Hana, east Maui. A native of southeastern Asia. It is also known as the Pacific house gecko, the Asian house gecko, or simply, the house lizard. They can be seen climbing walls of houses and other buildings in search of insects attracted to porch lights, hence their name. They grow to a length of between three to six inches (about 7.5–15 cm), and live for about five years. This gecko seemed not to be the least disturbed by my camera flash, so I got a good shot showing his bluish-green underbelly coloration and the double-rows of "suction-cups" (for climbing just about ANY surface!), the bright white spots on his toes. This one has lost a portion of his tail, but like many lizards, it will gradually grow back. Near Hana, east Maui.
